Post Steve. Mit Tim Cook beginnt eine neue Phase bei Apple. Der Manager lebt einen anderen Führungsstil. Unter Cook öffnet sich Apple und wird möglicherweise transparenter. Zum ersten Mal veröffentlicht Apple jetzt eine Liste mit allen Zulieferern. Apple kauft bei vornehmlich asiatische High-Tech-Unternehmen ein gefolgt von amerikanischen Chip-Herstellern. Vereinzelt verirren sich europäische Unternehmen auf die Liste. Längst findet die Produktion in Asien statt. Doch mit dieser Liste (unten) macht Cook Politik.

Die Firmen auf der Liste ordnen sich dem Apple Supplier Code of Conduct ( PDF ) unter. Dabei handelt es sich um einen Verhaltenskodex, der das Selbstverständnis und Menschenbild von Apple widerspiegelt aber auch Verpflichtungen beinhaltet. Berührt werden Menschenrechte und Arbeitsrecht, Sicherheit und Gesundheitsschutz sowie Umweltschutz und Verantwortung – auch Etik genannt.

Selbstmorde in Shenzen, sorgloser Umgang mit Lösungsmitteln – beides 2010 – und nicht zuletzt zwei Explosionen bei Foxconn und Pegatron – beide 2011 – werfen kein gutes Licht auf die Bedingungen, unter denen iPhone, iPad und Macs hergestellt werden. Apple muss daher handeln, weil Apple „gut“ sein möchte. Apple muss nachhaltig sein. Zu den freundlich lächelnde Store-Mitarbeiter im blauen Hemd gehören zufriedene chinesische Arbeiter im blauen Kittel.

Foxconn-Mitarbeiter haben jetzt eine 24-Stunden-Hotline für Probleme und Fragen jeder Art, dokumentiert Apple im eigenen Verhaltenskodex. Dort steht auch, dass Ausbildung und Arbeitsschutz verbessert wurde für Arbeiter, die Prozesse mit entflammbaren Metallspänen steuern und überwachen. Außerdem gibt es bei vielen Überstunden unter der Woche den Samstag Nachmittag frei. Das ist doch schon mal ein Anfang auf dem Weg zur 35-Stunden-Woche. Der Lohnausgleich findet auch statt, nachdem es bereits 2006 in der iPod-Produktion Unruhen unter den als duldsam dargestellten Chinesen gegeben hatte.

Über Bestellungen und Verträge kann ein Unternehmen wie Apple politisch mehr erreichen als ein Präsident Obama, der in Peking buckeln muss, weil sein Haushalt mit bei den Chinesen geliehenem Geld finanziert ist. Noch, aber nur noch, sind Europa und Amerika so reich, dass wir schlechte Arbeitsbedingungen und Umweltverschmutzung exportieren können und elektrische Gadgets importieren.
